50 degree drop brightens memories
Man oh beans, the things I wanted to post friday, then sunday, then island side. hmm. The kitty is making up for a weeks worth of lost time, but explaining the hubris clash with the sun, leading to an embarrassingly red bean (skin so tender to the kitty's light weight)...isn't working. The pillow defense seems to be the settlement worked out and damn it is good to have the little purr box back anyhow.
Satellite TV trumped up some city snowfall- it isn't sticking, but the grey of today certainly casts a high contrast glow on the days of beach and disfrutando.
storm before the calm
The scenes that rushed by before our departure put me in the seat of third person observer. Ripe with beginnings, endings, fantasy, hip hop and maternal adventure all in one day. Friday was most tremendous with the good prelim words on my very first proposal- the boy even hopped down some 30 blocks in his zoot suit to join for a quick collision of heads with the sporting fellow from the club.
Back uptown to get lost in a Japanese bookstore in Rockafella Center- perhaps this gem will satiate the urges to visit the land of the rising sun....or feed it, not sure just yet, but I'm hooked on the magazines, architecture, martial arts, hello kitty,
and photo-sticker booth there.
Goodbye lawyering hallway happy hour drinks with the boy - it is apparently unheard of to switch out of law completely after only one year of servitude. Good riddance, the boy will get to shake all those pebbles in his maracas upstairs at long last.
Hello to the moms + grams and off to GZA + Jedi Mind Tricks around the corner from the loft.
Bouncing about the neighborhood and sampling the lifestyle here, this was the first trip that the moms squared weren't squirrelled away by the shiny lights of Times Square's version of NewYorkland- gotta give props to the moms for finding some good cheap authentic polish food I'd missed. Lots of good ju ju beans from this visit, including about 3 dozen tamales (now that I know how get ready for tamale making parties) in the freezer.
and jamaica was...puerto rico!
Saturday night the boy pulls out his passport to find it is expired. Travel agent mom was on task and within an hour we regrouped and reticketed to Puerto Rico- U.S. Territory afterall. Visions of getting in good with the rest of the neighborhood and wondering what awaited us in San Juan.
We wouldn't have guessed the gauging prices obviously set for the cruise ship folk and business traveller or the full blown Americanization (read Prego, Kraft, KFC, and an obsession with cars). I think I'm gonna have to reconnaise Puerto Rico in a separate entry with pictures- but the mark of a good vacation is wanting to come home and simultaneously being wholly untangled inside. Just right.
the first day of new school for the boy
Our team was up at 6 am- less painful than previously thought, but then again the new bedtime wasn't as brutal given our traveller's fatigue. Team shift to the financer's hours was imperative, shifting the midnight bean maurauding to the dawn hours seems good so far, all the put-putting about leaves me ready to roll by 9 am.
