New camera, new art in progress

New camera, new art in progress, originally uploaded by R.bean.

Been too long...so much busy beans in these parts. I promise more updates soon.

Meantime, here's a little "behind the scenes" shot from the upcoming show at Rowan Morrison in Oakland. West coasters, the opening party is October 11th at 7pm. A sweet gallery / artist book store run by an awesome artist couple.

I'll be setting up the week before....ping me for a private tour or burrito!

Through Nov. 15.

Here's the press release...

Raylene Gorum is exhibiting selections from her well-traveled
sketchbooks as well as what she refers to as "Tapings", broadening the
definition of "tape" to include hardware store varietals, custom
manufactured editions, vinyl, and handmade silkscreen-textured
adhesive panels. The Tapings, assembled upon translucent drafting
film embellished with ink and watercolor, draw on themes of
fantastical urbanity and its tenuous relationship to the natural
landscape.

Volume Too is a series of such Tapings in which Gorum engages in a
dialogue with the acclaimed Japanese woodblock print artist,
Hiroshige. Both artists 'draw with a knife', producing their works by
precise cutting (he to wood, she to tape), and share a celebration of
color. Gorum quotes compositions from Hiroshige's prints of travelers
in Edo period Japan, exchanging villagers with modern characters in
distorted American vistas.

A Bay Area native, Gorum studied architecture at California
Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo and at Ecole d'Architecture Vals de
Marne in Paris. She presently lives and works in New York City.

You're spoiling the West Coasters at the cost of depriving us east coasters!

Can I put in a request for some sort of Halloween costume party/Bean exhibit? That's what I'd want for Christmas anyway...
