Installations

Installations are my passion.   They provide the opportunity to inject art into the fabric of daily life.  Many of my installations dramatize this by layering artwork over windows or other reflective surfaces thus provoking spatial perceptions and the limiting concept of a canvas.

The performance had many people moved to tears. Rains came shortly after and calmed Northern California's fires. I think Oshun was present.

Star Sailor at Onizuka Crossing
Star Sailor at Onizuka Crossing
Ellison Onizuka was a Japanese American astronaut from Kealakekua, Hawaii who died in the destruction of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986. This art piece is named “Star Sailor” (from the roots of the word ‘astronaut’) to pay homage to Ellison Onizuka's love of deep sea fishing, his home state of Hawaii, and his achievements with NASA. This piece explores the parallel harmonies of the deep sea and deep space through Col. Onizuka’s relationship to them.

Star Sailor celebrates the long history of braveHawaiian pioneers with a depiction of the Hōkūleʻa (a voyaging canoe built to revive the centuries-old tradition of Polynesian exploration) ready for lift-off across a rainbow horizon (for Hawaii, the Rainbow State).
